The Pet Product Reviews is an independent publisher focused on one question: which pet products are actually worth your money? We answer it the only way we trust — by buying the gear ourselves and testing it in real homes.
Our methodology
Every recommendation on this site starts the same way: we buy the product at full retail price, usually anonymously, through the same channels you would use. We do not accept free samples or review units that come with strings attached, because a product we cannot criticize honestly is not a product we can recommend.
Products then spend weeks — not hours — in daily use with our own dogs and cats before we score them. A dog camera has to survive barking alerts during actual workdays; a chew toy has to stand up to the strongest chewers in our test pack; an automatic litter box has to run cleanly across multi-cat households with zero safety incidents.
We score every product on the same transparent rubric:
- Durability — does it hold up to real, repeated use?
- Safety — sensor behavior, materials, and failure modes.
- Usability — how it feels across daily owner workflows.
- Value — honest cost over time, including consumables.
What we won't do
We never rank a product we haven't tested, we never sell editorial placements, and we never delete a critical finding to keep a manufacturer happy. When a product disappoints us, we say so — that is the entire point of an independent review.
